On Saturday September 8th, 2018 New Hope Lutheran is hosting a “Fill the Bus” campaign on Hollandale’s Main Street to collect non-perishable food items.  A bus will be parked just outside of Hollandale Grocery from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  One in five American children face food insecurity – more than the populations of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined. During the school week, most of these children depend on the federal free and reduced meal program their school offers. Sometimes, the meals at school are the only ones they get. When the school closes it doors on Friday afternoon, many of these children go home to empty cupboards and empty bellies for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday morning.

While we have a fabulous local area food pantry, a few years ago a Backpack program was developed to supplement children who may not have access to the area food pantry and may leave school on Fridays to empty food shelves at home.

The Congregation of New Hope Lutheran has been generously donating many of the items for this program and last year community members got involved too.  Each Friday, the school packages up non-perishable items and sends them home in a backpack with children in need.

Our goal will be to “fill the bus” with non-perishable items so that we can stock the shelves full at the Pecatonica Elementary School for this program.  If you’d like to help with this event, please contact Tiffany Bethke at 608-212-9028 or bethkeblessings@gmail.com
